The Equality Team in the Department of the Environment has lead responsibility for helping the Department meet its statutory commitments set out in Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998.
The Department's Disability Action Plan 2011-2014 (100KB) sets out how the Department proposes to fulfil the duties under Section 49A of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 in relation to its functions for the period 2011-2014.
The Department is currently consulting on a new draft Disability Action Plan 2014-2017 (96KB) which sets out how the Department proposes to fulfil the duties under Section 49A of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 in relation to its functions for the period 2014-2017. The consultation period will run from 2 January until 26 March 2014.
The Departments Equality Scheme 2011-2016 (288KB) sets out how the Department is fully committed to meeting its statutory obligations on the promotion of equality and good relations under Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998. The Equality Scheme confirms that commitment and contains an action plan which sets out the Department's plans for fulfilling those obligations. The Scheme was approved by the Equality Commission on 25 January 2012.
DOE Equality Scheme Section 75 Complaints Procedure (28KB) This complaints procedure explains how the Department's complaints procedure works in relation to Section 75 complaints. It helps ensure that all staff in the Department have uniform procedures for dealing with S75 complaints from people who believe that they have been directly affected by a failure of the Department to comply with its Equality Scheme.
Five Year Review of Disability Action Plans. (88KB) The Department has carried out a five year review of its disability action plans setting out how the Department fulfilled the duties under Section 49A of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 in relation to its functions over the past five years.
