SLB Background Information
Before the Strategic Leadership Board (SLB) was established, the DOE established a Local Government Reform Taskforce. This was made up of a Political Panel and a Working Group.

Nine sub-groups were also established to inform on policy proposals for legislation and identify key implementation tasks. These groups gave support on setting out the workings of the new councils.
The Taskforce then commissioned the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA) to carry out a review of this structure to make sure it was fit for purpose.

The SLB replaced the Taskforce as a result of this review to ensure clear political involvement and a more effective implementation of the overall programme.
