Bye Laws
Under Part VI of the Local Government Act (Northern Ireland) 1972 , district councils may make and enforce bye-laws, subject to confirmation by the appropriate Northern Ireland Department.
Local Government Policy Division handles bye-laws that include the following areas:
- The good rule and government of the whole or any part of the district of a council;
- The prevention and suppression of nuisances in the district of a council;
- Public parks;
- Recreation grounds;
- Promenades; and
- Seashores (subject to additional consents).
The relevant district council should be able to provide information concerning bye-laws that apply in your area.
