Estates Sub-Group

Background Information
The aim of the Estates Sub-Group was to consider the following issues:

• the implications for local authority estate moving from 26 councils to 7 and for councils assuming additional responsibilities from central government
• the identification of opportunities to rationalise the estate by adopting different ways of working introduced in the Review, including the imperative for greater integration and coordination of services
• the identification of examples of best practice in the management and rationalisation of corporate real estate by local authorities
• the setting out of the process for achieving the transformation in the estate
• the identification of existing relevant legislation and the potential legislative implications for the local government estate moving form 26 councils to 7
