Political Panel

Background
The Political Panel was established in 2006 to give local, elected members a forum to provide input into the work of the Local Government Taskforce. The Panel considered the findings of the nine Modernisation Sub-Groups and also considered a series of presentations from Departments with functions transferring to local government.

The membership was made up of:

• a representative from each of the five main political parties
• five councillors (one from each of the five main parties) nominated by NILGA
• the Northern Ireland Local Government Association (NILGA)

Further Developments
As a result of the recommendations in the report of the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA), the Strategic Leadership Board (SLB) was formed in January 2007.
