Estates

The aim of the Estates Subgroup was to consider the following issues:

  • The implications for local authority estate moving from 26 councils to 7 and for councils assuming additional responsibilities from central government;
  • Identification of opportunities to rationalise the estate by the adopting different ways of working introduced in the Review, including the imperative for greater integration and co-ordination of services;
  • Identification of examples of best practice in the management and rationalisation of corporate real estate by local authorities;
  • Set out the process for achieving the transformation in the estate;
  • Identification of existing relevant legislation and the potential legislative implications for the local government estate moving form 26 councils to 7.

Recommendations to the Taskforce

The recommendations from the Sub-group represented the thinking of key stakeholders on the key issues, to help inform the decisions of the Taskforce. Consideration of these issues will be continued through the work of the Policy Development Panels.
