Strategic Leadership Board
Creating Effective Councils The Strategic Leadership Board (SLB) is chaired by the Environment Minister, Edwin Poots. The Board was established to oversee the effective creation of 11 new councils.
Members include:
- ten political party representatives, nominated by the five main political parties
- the Northern Ireland Local Government Association (NILGA)
Support is provided by an advisory group made up of:
- three senior civil servants from transferring departments whose roles are moving to local government
- three senior local government representatives
- DOE and NILGA representatives, providing administrative support
Structure The SLB is supported by three Policy Development Panels (PDPs). The Panels have been established to lead the development and performance of policy relating to specific areas. Further information is available through the link below.
The PDPs’ proposals are approved by the SLB. Recommendations are made by the Regional Transition Coordinating Group (RTCG), along with Transition Committees (TCs) and Transition Management Teams (TMTs).
Background Before the SLB was established, the DOE established a Taskforce and a number of groups took forward all aspects of the review of local government.
