Climate Change Adaptation Programme

The Climate Change Act 2008 sets out the duty for the relevant Northern Ireland Departments to lay programmes before the Northern Ireland Assembly, setting out:

  • the objectives of the department in relation to adaptation to climate change;
  • the department’s proposals and policies for meeting those objectives; and
  • the time-scales for introducing those proposals and policies.

A separate UK Economics Climate Resilience project (ECR) will be produced in mid 2012 alongside the CCRA. This will assess the case for government action with regard to adaptation and appraise options for adaptation.

Based on the current timetable for completion of the CCRA and the Economics Climate Resilience, it is expected that a Northern Ireland Adaptation Programme will be laid before the Assembly by late 2012.
