Cross-Departmental Working Group

In order to ensure an effective Northern Ireland adaptation programme, there is a need for high level ownership of climate change adaptation from within each Northern Ireland government department.

The Northern Ireland Executive Committee extended the Cross-Departmental Working Group on Greenhouse Gas Emissions’ remit to include the adaptation agenda and other cross-cutting climate change issues. The group is now known as the Cross Departmental Working Group on Climate Change. The extension of the terms of reference for the working group will assist in:

1. the preparation and delivery of a cross-departmental adaptation programme on climate change;
2. cross departmental support for the preparation of an assessment of the risks to the United Kingdom of the current and predicted impact of climate change;
3. the reporting to the Executive annually on performance; and
4. making recommendations and/or decisions on wider climate change adaptation issues as appropriate.
