UK Climate Change Risk Assessment
The UK Climate Change Risk Assessment (CCRA) was laid before Parliament on 25 January 2012.
The first UK CCRA presents the latest evidence on the risks and opportunities of climate change for the UK to 2100. Its findings, particularly related to those risks that require early action, will inform the development of adaptation plans by the UK and Northern Ireland Governments .The findings are primarily based upon the latest UK Climate Projections which were published in 2009.
Defra commissioned an independent consortium led by HR Wallingford to carry out the technical work of the risk assessment. The outputs from their work include analysis of risks from climate change in:
- Eleven sector reports, which have been identified for priority action;
- An overarching technical evidence report (CCRA Evidence report) which summarises the key findings of all sector reports and covers five key areas/themes: Agriculture, Business, Health & Wellbeing, Building and Infrastructure and Natural Environment; and
- Separate reports for each of the devolved administrations
All of these reports can be viewed on the Defra website.
A UK Government Report (1.3MB) outlines the Government's views on some of the issues raised in these independent reports, highlights actions already in place to manage the risks identified in the CCRA, and outlines the UK Government and devolved administrations' plans for the future.
Following consultation with our stakeholders a Northern Ireland CCRA Report (3.1MB) on the most important impacts and consequences of climate change for us has also been produced. The Northern Ireland CCRA in particular will play a key part in helping us develop a Northern Ireland Adaptation Programme, which will identify priorities for action and appropriate adaptation measures that will be required to minimise risks to our economy, environment and society. A summary of the Northern Ireland CCRA report (669KB) is also available.
