Better Environmental Regulation

In 2001 the then Northern Ireland Executive introduced the Northern Ireland Better Regulation Strategy which aimed to minimise the burden of red tape on business. It placed obligations on all Northern Ireland Departments to promote Better Regulation and provide clear guidance to regulated businesses.

Through the Northern Ireland Environment Agency’s “Better Regulation for a Better Environment” programme the Department, in partnership with the Better Regulation Board, aims to modernise and simplify its approach to regulation to maximise environmental benefits and minimise the costs to businesses that comply with the law.

Northern Ireland Agri-Food Better Regulation and Simplification Review

The Department has published its response to the Northern Ireland Agri-Food Better Regulation and Simplification Review Report.

The overall aim of the Better Regulation and Simplification Review was to improve the way in which the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) and DOE operate to meet their regulatory objectives and EU obligations, so that compliance by the agri-food sector is facilitated and the cost of compliance is reduced. The Department recognises the importance of the agri-food sector to the economy of Northern Ireland and welcomes the panel’s report.
