Current system – “FEPA” At present, the Department is responsible for controlling all deposits into the sea up to the High Water Mean Spring (HWMS) tidemark under Part II of the Food and Environment Protection Act 1985 (FEPA). The licensing system under FEPA regulates the deposit of substances or articles in Northern Ireland's territorial waters (from HWMS out to 12 nautical miles), or under the seabed. This includes the disposal of dredged material, construction work such as the building of jetties, and the reclamation of land. Further information on the current FEPA system is available at: www.ni-environment.gov.uk/marine-license Further information on marine issues: FEPA Licence (Food and Environmental Protection Act) |
