MSFD transpositionTransposition To ensure the requirement contained within the Directive for the development of a coherent, coordinated and integrated approach to the marine is achieved, the Directive was transposed on a UK wide basis. The DOE Marine Policy Team worked closely with colleagues in Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the Scottish and Welsh Devolved Administrations to develop a single set of UK-wide regulations, the Marine Strategy Regulations 2010 These were laid before Parliament on 22 June 2010 and became effective on 15 July 2010. The Regulations were made following a UK-wide consultation “Putting in place the legal framework for implementation” which took place from 30 October 2009 to 22 January 2010. A copy of the government’s response to the consultation which includes a summary of the comments received is available from the Defra website. A copy of the Department of the Environment’s response to comments received in Northern Ireland can be accessed here. A copy of the Regulatory Impact Assessment which assesses the costs of transposition is available here. Back to MSFD Homepage
