Taxi Reform

The Taxis Act (NI) 2008Opens in a new window. became law in April 2008 and gave the Department of the Environment (DOE) the powers to modernise and improve the regulations for the taxi industry.  It includes powers to introduce new requirements for taxi fares, drivers, vehicles and operators.

The Department is in the process of introducing the regulations which give effect to policy contained within the Act.  A number of different strands of legislation are required. The following links provide more information on each of these:

On 19 June 2014 the Minister for the Environment, Mark H Durkan outlined his plans for the implementation of the remaining aspects of the Taxis Act (NI) in the form of a Written Statement to The Environment Committee.  To view the document follow the link below:
