Taxi ReformThe Taxis Act (NI) 2008 became law in April 2008 and gave the Department of the Environment (DOE) the powers to modernise and improve the regulations for the taxi industry. It includes powers to introduce new requirements for taxi fares, drivers, vehicles and, for the first time, operators. DOE is now in the process of introducing the regulations which give effect to policy contained within the Act. A number of different strands of legislation are required.
