The Department of the Environment (DOE) today announced significant changes to the requirement to have a Goods Vehicle Operator’s Licence.
The changes will become effective on 1 July 2012 and will require all those using vehicles with a gross plated weight over 3,500kg to carry goods in the course of a business or trade to have an operator’s licence.
Currently only operators using vehicles over 3,500kg to carry goods for hire or reward have to be licensed. The new legislation will bring all operators carrying their own goods into the licensing fold.
The DOE will be holding a number of Information Open Days to help inform the industry about the changes. Representatives from the DOE and other key agencies will be attending the Open Days to provide advice and guidance on how to comply with new legislation.
The Information Open Days will run from 12 noon to 8.00 pm at the following locations:-
26 March The Lodge Hotel, Coleraine
27 March Corr’s Corner Hotel, Newtownabbey
28 March Armagh City Hotel, Armagh
29 March Mellon Country Hotel, Omagh
