Portadown lorry driver fined £400 and disqualified for insurance and driving licence offences

A Co. Armagh lorry driver was fined a total of £400 and ordered to pay a £15 offender levy and £22 court costs at Belfast Magistrates’ Court today.

Mark McKinney (48) of Moyallan Road, Portadown was fined £50 for failing to hold a valid driving licence. In addition he was fined £350 and disqualified from driving for 14 days for failing to hold appropriate motor insurance.

On 16 August 2012 Enforcement Officers from the Driver & Vehicle Agency directed an articulated goods vehicle driven by Mr McKinney to a DOE Weighbridge at Garmoyle Street, Belfast.

On inspection of the vehicle it was found that Mr McKinney did not hold the correct category of driving licence to enable him to drive it lawfully on a road. It was also found that as a result of failing to hold the correct category of driving licence he was not covered by motor insurance.
