| Registration summary | Obligated businesses must recover and recycle a percentage of the packaging they place on the UK market. They can register direct with the NIEA or join a compliance scheme. Compliance must be proved through the purchase of packaging recovery notes. |

| Eligibility Criteria | Businesses operating in Northern Ireland with an annual turnover over £2m and handling over 50 tonnes of packaging a year are obligated. |
| Regulation Summary | Business obligations are set out in The Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2007 as amended. Data provided to calculate packaging obligations must be as accurate as reasonably possible. |
| Application Evaluation Process | Each application will be checked for data accuracy and the relevant recycling and recovery obligations for the business will be calculated. |

| Apply online | All applications must be submitted via the UK National Packaging Waste Database (NPWD). If you want to apply direct, please contact NIEA for more information. If you want to join a compliance scheme, they will register you on NPWD. |
