Biodiversity Delivery Groups

Last updated: 22 March 2010

Progress of Actions.

As a key part of the Northern Ireland Biodiversity Strategy - 37 Northern Ireland Habitat Action Plans (HAPs) have been published for priority habitats requiring conservation action.
Each of these plans detail a range of targets and actions for government Departments and Agencies.
To deliver these plans there was a need to forge an ongoing partnership between government and other groups. This process has been initiated by the setting up of biodiversity delivery groups. These groups are useful in that:

  • they bring the relevant Departmental, Agency and non-government partners together
  • they provide a focus for combining closely related HAPs into a single coherent work programme
  • they provide a co-ordination platform to allocate tasks within and out side government
  • they provide a forum to discuss and negotiate issues and priorities

As an example of the group make - up, The Native Woodland Group is chaired by the Forest Service and run in partnership with us.
At the core of the Native Woodland Group is a rolling work programme. The membership has evolved over time as work priorities have advanced.

The implementation groups are:

Coastal and Marine Biodiversity

Farmland Biodiversity Delivery Group

Freshwater and Wetlands

Peatlands and Uplands Biodiversity Delivery Group
