Fish
Last updated: 22 March 2010
Fish play an important part in marine habitats in Northern Ireland and are economically important. About 100 species of regularly occurring marine fish are found in Northern Ireland's coastal waters.
This number would double if deep water and vagrant species (animals that appear well outside their normal range) were to be included on the list.
The second largest fish in the world, the basking shark is a regular visitor to our waters.
Overfishing has been implicated in the declines in some marine fish species including cod.
