Sports Divers
Last updated: 22 June 2010
Diving is a popular sport around our shores, in which divers enjoy visiting wrecks for historical interest or for their attraction to marine wildlife. Sadly in the past many items have been removed from sites in the mistaken belief that the features on them are degrading anyway. If this continues, most interesting wrecks will no longer be as remarkable as they once were. Removal of individual artefacts robs us of an understanding of the shipwreck as a whole.
If you are diving a shipwreck remember:
- do not disturb the shipwreck or remove items.
- if the site is previously unknown report it to us and the Receiver of Wreck
. Accurate location and any description you have will be helpful. - updates on the condition of any of Northern Ireland's shipwrecks are always welcome.
