The Department of the Environment is looking for new members for two of its Statutory Advisory Councils which provide invaluable advice and guidance to the Department on environmental issues. The vacancies are in the Council for Nature Conservation and the Countryside (CNCC) and the Historic Monuments Council (HMC).

Council for Nature Conservation and the Countryside

The Council for Nature Conservation and the Countryside consists of a Chair, Deputy Chair and up to 18 members who have special interest and knowledge of our natural environment. The Council advises the Department on nature conservation issues and matters affecting the countryside such as the establishment and management of national parks, areas of outstanding natural beauty or special scientific interest, and the protection of wildlife species. The term of appointment, which is effective from 18 February 2012, is for a period of three years and the closing date for applications is 12:00 noon Thursday 13 October 2011.

Historic Monuments Council

The Historic Monuments Council comprises a Chairperson and 15 members who span a wide range of experience and expertise in archaeology, historic monuments and cultural heritage. The role of the Council is to advise the Department on matters relating to our built environment such as the scheduling of monuments, conservation of monuments in state care, maritime archaeology, and industrial and defence heritage. Terms of appointment are for five years, effective from 1 February 2012 and the closing date for applications is 12:00 noon Thursday 20 October 2011.
