Londonderry farmer fined £500 for waste offences
Mr William Curry (75) from Ervey Road, Cross, Londonderry was fined £500 plus £67 costs at Londonderry Magistrates’ court today for the unauthorised disposal of controlled waste.
Officers from Northern Ireland Environment Agency investigated a site owned by Mr Curry on the Slaghtmanus Road in July 2007 where a substantial quantity of controlled waste in the form of construction and demolition waste and clay was deposited.
Mr Curry pleaded guilty to two waste offences, permitting the unauthorised depositing and keeping of controlled waste under The Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997 and was fined £250 for each offence.

- Mr Curry pleaded guilty and was charged under the following Article of the Waste and Contaminated Land Order (Northern Ireland) 1997: Article 4(1)(a), knowingly permitting controlled waste to be deposited and Article 4(1)(b), keeping, treating or disposing of waste without a waste management licence.
