Noise Action Week

Last updated: 23 March 2007

What is Noise Action Week?

Noise Action Week (NAW) is an annual event that aims to:

  • Promote practical solutions to everyday noise problems
  • Promote communication and consideration between neighbours
  • Support district councils, housing organisations, mediation services and others to inform the public of services available to tackle noise problems
  • Educate and inform noise makers and noise sufferers about noise reduction

NAW is co-ordinated by the National Society for Clean Air and Environmental Protection (NSCA) and gives everyone involved in managing noise an opportunity to raise awareness of the problems excessive noise can cause and the actions we can all take to mitigate noise.

Why do we need a Noise Action Week?

Noise can affect the quality of life of everyone. Promoting a responsible attitude towards noise and raising awareness of the social impacts of noise is essential in building sustainable communities.

The most frequently complained about noises are neighbour noises, which are often a result of thoughtless or anti social behaviour.individuals are responsible for the noise they make in their own homes and community and its impacts on others.

Research shows that proactive education on noise is fundamental in tackling neighbour noise problems.Noise Action Week provides a focus for noise education and is welcomed by noise managers for the opportunity it gives them.

What is happening for Noise Action Week 2006?

NAW is an opportunity to promote local services, new initiatives, form partnerships.District councils, housing organisations, mediation services, noise control professionals, schools and other annually co-ordinate events to educate and inform people about noise, the impact it has and how to reduce it.

NSCA provide support materials for local and regional co-ordinators, including a 'How to' guide and toolkit with ideas for NAW activities, and interactive website - noiseactionweek.org.uk, promotional and educational resources.NSCA also work to promote NAW at a national level.
