Medical Administration of Radioactive Substances
Last updated: 5 March 2009
Our Industrial Pollution and Radiochemical Inspectorate (IPRI) act as agent for the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSS and PS) enforcing the following acts:
- The Medicines Act 1968
- Medicines (Administration of Radioactive Substances) Regulations 1978 as amended by The Medicines (Administration of Radioactive Substances) Amendment Regulations 2006
- Medicines (Administration of Radioactive Substances) Amendment Regulations 1995
- The Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000
Monitoring visits are made to hospitals where radioactive substances are administered to patients for the purpose of diagnosis, treatment or research. The reports of these visits are passed to the DHSS and PS for action as appropriate.
