CRC Simplification Proposals

Proposals to make the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme simpler, easier and more straightforward have been outlined by the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC). Further information is available on the DECC websiteOpens in New window.

Carbon Reduction

The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme was introduced by government in 2008. Organisations that meet the qualification criteria, based on how much electricity they consumed in 2008, will be obliged to participate in the CRC.

As well as reducing carbon emissions, the scheme will help organisations save money by reducing their energy bills. The better an organisation performs in terms of reducing its emissions, the higher it will appear in the annual performance league table.

Anyone participating in this scheme must monitor energy use and report on their equivalent carbon dioxide emissions and then purchase allowances, sold by Government, to cover these emissions each year. If you do not meet your legal obligations under CRC you may be fined.
