Glenariff Nature Reserve

Last updated: 5 February 2010

Grid Reference: D 210205

About 100 years ago, trees were planted to enhance the native woodland of oak, hazel, ash and willow and to make the area more attractive to visitors. Catwalks, paths and footbridges were built throughout the gorge to make the waterfalls easier to reach.

The damp conditions are ideal for ferns, mosses and liverworts. Several rare species grow in the shade cast by the trees and under the spray thrown by the waterfalls.

Facilities: Car parks, toilets, visitor centre and signposted paths.
