This area of Rathlin Island was declared An ASSI for the population of Pyramidal Bugal (Ajuga pyramidalis) which is very rare in the British Isles.
This is the only population in Northern Ireland, and there are only a few other populations in ireland, in counties Galway and Clare. The species is associated with the unimproved acid grassland pasture which occurs at the base of the basalt rock outcrops.
