This is a large area of intact oceanic blanket bog exhibiting a number of notable structural features including hummock and lawn complexes and a well developed pool system.

picture of an Argent and Sable moth © Robert ThompsonAssociated habitats include wet heath communities on the peripheral flushed slopes and dry heaths on shallower peats over rocky knolls. Species diversity is enhanced by small pockets of scrub and species-rich flushed grassland.

A number of notable species are recorded for the blanket bog including oblong-leaved Sundew  and the hummock-forming Sphagnum fuscum. In addition, because of the diversity and quality of the associated habitats present, a number of notable species of butterflies and moths have been recorded.
