The Altmover Glen was formed by the Woodburn River. Both sides of the glen are covered by a band of mature acid oak woodland, which merge with a more base-rich ash/hazel woodland on the lower flushed slopes which in turn merges wet alder/willow woodland of the waterlogged valley bottom .
The mature canopy is dominated by sessile oak, while downey birch and rowan are the main associates. The understorey is dominated by hazel and holly. The ground flora is dominated by greater wood-rush, bilbury, wood sorrel and Bryophytes.
