Corbylin Wood has several distinctive plant communities and in consequence has a rich species assemblage. The wood extends along a steep ridge associated with part of the Burn Dennet river valley and its tributary the Corbylin Burn.picture of a red squirrel
The wood largely occurs on acidic soils with downy birch and mature oak dominating the canopy.
However, there are also areas of base-rich soils dominated by ash and along the flushed lower slopes alder is prominent.
In addition to its overall species diversity, the woodland supports a number of rare woodland plants including bird cherry and wood fescue.
Corbylin Wood also provides an important habitat for animals including the endangered red squirrel.
