Corbylin Wood has several distinctive plant communities and in consequence has a rich species assemblage. The wood extends along a steep ridge associated with part of the Burn Dennet river valley and its tributary the Corbylin Burn.
The wood largely occurs on acidic soils with downy birch and mature oak dominating the canopy.
However, there are also areas of base-rich soils dominated by ash and along the flushed lower slopes alder is prominent.
In addition to its overall species diversity, the woodland supports a number of rare woodland plants including bird cherry and wood fescue.
Corbylin Wood also provides an important habitat for animals including the endangered red squirrel.
