Moneygal Bog Part II represents an area of cutover lowland raised bog adjacent to Moneygal Bog ASSI. The Moneygal Bog system represents a large area of intact lowland raised bog, with a well-developed dome, hummock and pool complex.
These old hand cuttings provide additional habitat diversity and are an integral part of the natural hydrology of the bog. The cuttings are dominated by a mosaic of regenerating bog, drier, raised banks dominated by heather and occasional pockets of flushed acid grassland.
The area provides an important habitat for birds. Snipe, woodcock and meadow pipit have all been recorded.
