Silverbrook Wood lies on a steep north-facing valley slope along the Burn Dennet River and its tributary the Lockagh Burn. 
The canopy is variable with birch and oak species prominent in acidic soils, ash dominant in more base-rich conditions and alder present in the wettest parts. This variation has resulted in one of the richest woodland plant assemblages in Northern Ireland.
In addition to its overall species diversity, the woodland supports a number of rare woodland plants including bird cherry and wood fescue.
Silverbrook Wood also provides an important habitat for animals including the endangered red squirrel and otter.
