A compact, relatively undisturbed lowland raised bog which is among the most intact examples in the west of Northern Ireland.
The intact bog surface exhibits a well defined dome with characteristic vvegetation and structural features, including hummock and lawn complexes and small shallow pools.
Sphagnum species are well represented. Toward the southern end of the bog, a small woodland dominated by birch and Scots pine has developed on a low drumlin which lies close to the surface of the peat.
The lagg surrounding the bog has been cut for turf, creating a mosaic of habitats ranging from more mature woodland through scrub to acid grasslands and regenerating bog vegetation.
