A compact, relatively undisturbed lowland raised bog which is among the most intact examples in the west of Northern Ireland.
The intact bog surface exhibits a well defined dome with characteristic vvegetation and structural features, including hummock and lawn complexes and small shallow pools.
picture of cross leaved heathSphagnum species are well represented. Toward the southern end of the bog, a small woodland dominated by birch and Scots pine has developed on a low drumlin which lies close to the surface of the peat.
The lagg surrounding the bog has been cut for turf, creating a mosaic of habitats ranging from more mature woodland through scrub to acid grasslands and regenerating bog vegetation.
