Peatlands Park

Last updated: 8 July 2011

Peatlands Express TrainPeatlands Park was specifically established to raise awareness of peatland habitat issues. The peat here has been forming for aound 10,000 years. There are over 16km of paths leading visitors through various habitats within the park.

The park is rich in insects, particularly butterflies, moths, dragonflies and damselflies and many woodland and wetland birds and various species of nest here. Badgers and hares are also present, while lizards and newts can be found in the open bog areas.

A short stroll around the Bog Garden will give you a chance to see almost all of the flora and fauna associated with this precious peatland habitat. Check out the facilities section below or contact the Park for details of when the Peatlands Express mini railway is in operation.

Don't forget that International Bog Day is taking place this year at Peatlands Park on Sunday 31 July along with the NI Bog Snorkelling Championships! This year, we are holding the event in aid of the NI Children's Hospice.
