Eco-Schools

Eco-Schools is a recognised award scheme, rewarding and accrediting schools who have made a commitment to continuously improving their environmental performance. It is also a learning resource, raising awareness of environmental issues through activities that link to curriculum subjects. The aim of the Eco-Schools programme is to make environmental awareness and action an intrinsic part of the life and ethos of the school -both for pupils and for staff. The Eco-Schools programme addresses biodiversity, litter, waste, energy, water, transport, healthy living and school grounds within schools.

The Young Environmentalist Awards (YEA)

The Young Environmentalist Awards (YEA) is an all-island environmental awards programme for young people. The aim of the YEA is to support and honour young people who take part in environmental projects which protect their local environment, prevent environmental damage and promote environmental awareness. The YEA initiative empowers young people to become active citizens through environmental project work. Each project improves the quality of the environment and therefore the quality of people’s lives locally and globally.

Environmental Education Forum

We work closely with other organisations through the Environmental Education Forum (EEF), the networking organisation that promotes a coordinated approach to the delivery of environmental education in Northern Ireland. Members are actively involved in environmental education and bring a wide range of expertise and enthusiasm to the Forum.

Through providing a forum and network for the exchange of information on environmental education, by encouraging co-operative working amongst those involved in its delivery and by promoting the role of environmental education in the delivery of many curriculum subjects, the Forum plays an important role in enhancing environmental education and education for sustainable development provision in Northern Ireland.
