The Buildings Database contains records of buildings which have been judged to be of enough architectural or historic interest to merit a survey by us. Most of this information relates to listed buildings; however, information on buildings which do not quite meet this standard, or have been demolished and/or removed from the list is also included.
The First Survey Buildings of Architectural and Historic Interest was a very basic record of these buildings and the information in the database on such buildings relates only to their address and grade. The Second Survey has recorded detailed information, including descriptions and histories, and this is provided on buildings and structures in the areas that have been surveyed. If you want to find out more about listed buildings in areas that have not yet been covered by the Second Survey, information in paper form can be accessed at the Monuments and Buildings Record from:

To protect owner privacy and security, information we hold about the interior of buildings is not accessible. This relates to properties which are not easily visible from a public road.
The information contained on these records relates to the date of survey or an updated record prior to listing. If you are aware of historical or other information which you feel is not accurate or has been misinterpreted, or if you possess extra information which might contribute to our understanding of a structure's architectural or historical value, we would be pleased to hear from you.
Before accessing the Northern Ireland Buildings Database you will be asked to read and accept terms and conditions designed to protect the buildings, their owners and you from misuse of the information. You will then be able to use the database for your personal research.
