Where public drinking water quality is at risk of failing to meet the regulatory standards and the existing water treatment is considered to be inadequate, the Inspectorate can agree a water treatment improvement programme with Northern Ireland Water.
This process is know as 'Authorisation of Departures'.
There are currently no Authorised Departures (ADs) in place. The last AD for the chemical group Trihalomethanes (THMs) ended on the 16 August 2010. We are still, however, awaiting completion of the compliance improvement scheme for THMs at Lough Bradan water treatment works.
If you require authorisation under Regulation 20, you must fill out an application form (.doc 718Kb)
. Guidance notes are included with the application form.
