As the body responsible for implementing the Water Framework Directive, the Department of the Environment has set up the Water Framework Directive Implementation Working Group (IWG).
This is made up of four representatives, one from each of the departments that are responsible for water, including Regional Development, Culture, Agriculture, and Rural Development.
The IWG has produced Draft River Basin Management Plans for the three International River Basin Districts,including North Eastern, North Western and Neagh Bann.
These plans were published on the 22 December 22nd, 2008.During a period of public consultation between December 22nd and June 22nd, 2009, the public was invited to express their views on the Plans.
