The Department of the Environment (DOE) has been identified as the competent authority (.PDF 185Kb)Opens in New window to coordinate implementation of the Water Framework Directive

We are the lead body on the technical work. Delivery rests with DOE in partnership with the Department of Rural Development (DRD), the Department of Culture and Leisure (DCAL) and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD).

The River Basin Management Plan will be implemented through Local Management Areas (LMAs).

Local Management Area Action Plans will be developed and implemented on a three-year rolling programme:

2010 - South Down, Strangford, Lagan and Bush
2011 - Quoile, Belfast Lough, Glens and Rathlin
2012 - Larne Lough

We will work with stakeholders through catchment stakeholder groups. Find out about your catchment stakeholder group on the public participation section of the website.

The Plan has been developed through consultation and engagement with a wide range of interested parties and has also been promoted at a number of public events.
