Monitoring and Classification

The Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) published a report in March 2006 on its proposals for monitoring the aquatic environment and meeting the monitoring requirements of the EC Water Framework Directive.

The report was intended to provide an overarching framework and to outline the general approach that would be adopted to monitoring Northern Ireland's aquatic environment for the years 2006 to 2007 and beyond, highlighting the drivers for the work, the main one being the obligation to meet the monitoring requirements of the EC Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC).
