Enough Seat Belts?

What if there are not enough seat belts available?
Children up to 135cms tall must use child restraints with few exceptions, which means they must use seats in the vehicle that have seat belts to secure their restraints.
If you have adult passengers without a seat belt remember that they can cause injury to others in a collision.  While seat belt wearing law does not specifically prohibit you from carrying more adult passengers than there are seat belts; it is an offence if the way in which passengers are carried causes injury to any person in the vehicle.  The police can prosecute if they judge that an unbelted passenger is a risk to the others in the vehicle.
What if I can't fit 3 child seats in the back of my car?
If a car has 3 seat belts in the rear, and 2 occupied child seats or boosters prevent the fitting of a third, a third child 3 years or over may then use an adult belt.  However if there is room, the third child must travel in the front seat and use the correct child seat or booster.
