In Northern Ireland, the Department of the Environment is responsible for regulation of the road transport industry. This work is carried out in a number of ways:

Policy and legislation:  Road Safety and Vehicle Regulation Division reviews, monitors and develops policies and legislation on the key issues affecting road transport.

Testing, licensing and enforcement: The Driver and Vehicle Agency is responsible for vehicle and driver testing, licensing and enforcement in Northern Ireland.

This section is designed to give transport operators, consumer representative bodies and those involved at industry level, useful information on the policies that are being developed and introduced by the Department.
